For over 600 companies, Zacks Investment Research now has the ability to parse company earnings press releases to extract the actual earnings per share and revenue figures within milliseconds from the point in time when the press releases are posted on the news wires. We then match these actual figures up with our consensus estimates, calculate the surprise figures (difference between estimates and actuals), and calculate the proprietary Zacks Price Response Indicator (PRI) score. This package of data is then fed to Zacks clients within seconds after the press release hits the wires.

How is the ASE news service delivered in Bloomberg?

Zacks Alpha Surprise Express is now available as a news service on the Bloomberg terminal. ASE is delivered as a headline in the news feed for each covered ticker as well as within the earnings related news channels, particularly the news channels “NI ERN” and “NI STKALERT”. The headlines provide the EPS surprise percentage, the revenue surprise percentage, and the Price Response Indicator score. If you click the ASE headline, you can see more of the announcement details such as the EPS and revenue estimates, the actuals, and the surprise calculations both in dollar figures and percentages, along with the PRI score. This information is delivered right in the middle, or sometimes ahead of, the Bloomberg earnings headlines. However, the ASE will be the first headline for each earnings report that delivers the surprise calculation and the PRI score. That gives the Bloomberg trader a big speed advantage compared to other earnings report services.
